working girl // desk to dinner

As I shop for spring, I’m aiming to make more intentional purchases, making sure a piece works for the office and every day.  This weekend I found a fun textured skirt and layering my go-to black cardigan over it is great for work and easily transitions to the fun night ahead.  If I’m out of the office before the sunsets, it’s straight to happy hour or dinner with friends – just a quick change of shoes, a pop of pattern, and I’m out the door. It’s {finally} my favorite time of year in Chicago and the rooftops are calling my name!

I’ve officially starting dressing for Spring, whether the weather agrees with me or not.  It’s time.  I wore these bright patterned pants last week.  Instead of wearing my usual long-sleeved navy sweater, I paired it with this lace blouse for a hint of texture.  On the hangers, I would have never paired these two pieces, but I think the lace detail draws the eye up towards my face and balances the intensity of the pants {even though my boss told me I looked like this}.

J.Crew and Ann Taylor both have such fun florals and colors for spring.  If the weather isn’t going to brighten up, at least my clothes will!

PANTS // BLOUSE // SHOES (Prada, old similar here and here) // NECKLACE (on sale!)

Finding a nice fitting pair of pants for work is always a struggle; I’m constantly finding that they’re too big or too tight, and usually so unflattering. I know work isn’t a fashion show but drowning in a pair of boxy and oversized pants is not a look I’m going for.

I recently discovered {from my cutest friend across the world, Claire} that is does in fact exist – a work pant that fits perfectly!  The Sloan fit slim ankle pant from Banana Republic hits just above the ankle and is extremely flattering {especially for us shortys}.  The pant sits just below the waist and is tight through the hip and thigh area but has a good amount of stretch – I bought mine tight and they loosened a bit after a couple hours of wear.

The pants come in lots of colors including a new berry color that I cannot wait to get my hands on! And it’s our lucky day because Banana is running a holiday countdown promotion, which means these pants are 40% off today using the code FESTIVE at checkout!

What’s your go-to work pant?
