spring trends

Spring trendsOkay, okay, I know it’s not officially spring but mother nature is teasing us with this little slice of warmth and it’s making me excited.  It even smelled like spring this weekend.  Today I’m sharing some of the spring trends I can’t wait to wear and some that I’m still resisting.

Jean skirts – I feel like I really killed the Abercrombie jean skirt game back in the 8th grade but I’m not sure if I’m ready to relive it again just yet.  Although I was shopping with my friend a few weeks back and she looked absolutely perfect in a jean skirt – I found myself convincing her that she had to get it.  So maybe what it boils down to is that I’m into the trend, just not for me?

Shirtdresses – As someone that works in a business environment, I’m all about dresses that can transition with me from work time to play time.

Flare jeans – I love flare jeans.  I always have. And I rocked mine even when I knew at least 10 people were going to tell me that the 70’s wanted their pants back.  I’m glad more people will be joining me.

Statement stripes – Not that statements stripes are an earth shattering new trend, but they are all over stores for spring and it makes me happy.  Stripes are such an easy pattern to mix; pattern on pattern, pattern and texture, pattern and color – it’s an easy place to start experimenting.  But I will say, not all striped shirts/dresses/shorts are created equal and if the piece isn’t flattering it’s an instant deal-breaker.

Knee high gladiators – I don’t think I’m sold on the knee highs and it’s not because I don’t think they’re adorable.  But for my 5’4″ frame the shoe is just too overbearing.  Although I like to experiment with my style and hop outside of my box sometimes, it’s also important to dress for my personal style and body.  I think this is a trend that I’ll be admiring from a far.

Gingham – This is a combination of two things that are near and dear to my style: patterns and neutrals, mixing them together is almost too good.  And if I slightly resemble a picnic table, I think I’m okay with it.
